1. Data protection at a glance — general information
The following notes provide a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit this website. Personal data means any data with which you can be personally identified. Detailed information on data protection can be found in the sections below.
2. Hosting — Netlify
This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 2325 3rd Street, Suite 215, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the site, Netlify automatically collects and stores server log data, including your IP address, in server log files. This is technically necessary to deliver the website reliably and securely.
Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the reliable and secure presentation of the website). Netlify is a US provider, and personal data may be transferred to the USA. These transfers are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Netlify, Inc. is certified, and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Processing on our behalf is carried out under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR, which forms part of Netlify's terms.
Netlify Forms. The forms on this site — the contact form, the newsletter sign-up, and the record of your cookie choices — are handled by Netlify Forms. When you submit a form, the data you enter is transmitted to and stored by Netlify on our behalf, under the same terms, legal basis, and transfer safeguards described above.

Legal bases
We process personal data depending on the specific processing activity under the following legal bases: Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); Contract / pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR); Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Storage duration
Unless a more specific retention period is stated in this privacy policy, personal data remains with us until the purpose for processing no longer applies.
Your rights
You have the following rights at any time: right of access; right to rectification; right to erasure; right to restriction of processing; right to object to certain processing; right to withdraw consent; right to data portability; right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
SSL/TLS encryption
For security reasons, this website uses SSL/TLS encryption.
4. Data collection on this website
Cookies and consent. When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept or decline optional cookies. A single strictly necessary cookie, named "salt_cookie_consent" (with an equivalent entry in your browser's local storage), stores your choice for about 180 days so we don't have to ask again; it is used on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and § 25(2) TDDDG and does not require consent. Optional cookies are grouped into Functional, Performance, and Marketing. Functional cookies load the embedded booking calendar (Calendly). Performance and Marketing are reserved for future measurement and advertising tools, and at present set no cookies and load nothing. No optional cookies are set before you consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG), and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.
Other information stored on your device. Apart from the consent cookie, this website stores two entries in your browser's session storage. Both are first-party, contain no personal data, are never transmitted to us, and are deleted the moment you close the tab. "salt-calc-state" holds your answers while you use the Founder Bottleneck Calculator, so that they can be carried across to the results page. "salt-popup-shown" records that a pop-up has already been shown during your visit, so that you are not shown it again. Both are used on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and § 25(2) TDDDG and do not require consent.
Record of your consent. To document your cookie choice, we store a dated record of it — the categories you allowed or declined, the banner version, and the time of the decision. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR (accountability under the GDPR).
Contact form. If you use our contact form, the details you provide — first name, last name, email address, your message, and, if you tick it, your newsletter opt-in — are processed to handle your enquiry. The submission is handled through Netlify Forms (see above). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your enquiry relates to a contract or pre-contractual measures, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (interest in responding to enquiries).
Newsletter sign-up. If you sign up for our newsletter, "On the Table", we process your email address to send it to you. Delivery is handled by Substack (see below). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent); you can unsubscribe at any time.
Email enquiries. If you contact us by email, your details are stored and processed to handle your enquiry. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR.
5. Services and integrations
Calendly (appointment scheduling — embedded). Our booking page embeds the Calendly scheduling widget so you can book a call directly on our site. Provider: Calendly, LLC, 271 17th St NW, Suite 1000, Atlanta, GA 30363, USA. The widget loads only after you allow Functional cookies; until then it is blocked and shown as a placeholder. Once loaded, Calendly may set cookies and process personal data (such as your IP address and the details you enter to book), and data may be transferred to the USA. Transfers are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Calendly is certified, and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG (consent). You can withdraw consent at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.
Google Meet (video calls). Calls you book with us take place on Google Meet. Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (with processing by Google LLC, USA). If you join a call, personal data such as your name, email address, and technical connection data is processed. Data may be transferred to the USA on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the call relates to a contract or pre-contractual measures, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Newsletter — Substack. We send our newsletter, "On the Table", using Substack. Provider: Substack, Inc., 111 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA. When you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Substack to deliver the newsletter and to provide us with basic statistics (such as whether an email was opened). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every issue. Data may be transferred to the USA on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Substack is certified, and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
Web analytics — Pirsch (cookieless). We use Pirsch Analytics to understand in aggregate how this website is used, for example which pages are visited and where visitors arrive from. Provider: Emvi Software GmbH, Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany, with all data hosted in Germany. Pirsch works without cookies, sets nothing on your device, does not store personal data, and does not track you across websites; it counts visits using a rotating, non-reversible hash, so no cookie banner is required. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in understanding and improving the website). Processing on our behalf is carried out under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.
Web fonts (self-hosted). This website uses the Antonio and Inter typefaces, hosted directly on our own server. No connection to Google or any other third party is made to load them, no personal data is transmitted, and no cookies are set. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (consistent presentation of the website).
